Originally
from Ponca City, Oklahoma, I moved to the Dallas, Texas area in 1969, where
I did commercial photography and electronic image manipulation. I started
using computers as a way to bypass the airbrush stage in photography and
found a real affinity for the electronic medium. Now, I live in the cool
mountains of Ruidoso, New Mexico.

I write and maintain home pages for companies all over Texas and New Mexico and still do commercial photography.
For the last couple of years, I have been working as the managing editor of Travellady
Magazine doing travel writing and photography. Life here is
a little slower than the big city and a lot less stressful. If you're interested
in Ruidoso, check out the Ruidoso Home Page.
I grew up on the road, the eldest son of a second generation
professional rodeo clown. Travel and performing came as second nature.
My photography experience started in high school and has never stopped.
The rodeo business did. Photography has always been the central thread
in whatever I was doing. Even a brief stint as a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff
in the mid 70's found me doing crime scene photography. I still love to
travel and spend as much time as possible touring the world on
motorcycles.
I have the ability to be comfortable in any social situation and
I have a natural rapport with strangers. I've dined with heads of state
and shared simple meals with the humblest of families. People accept me
easily and become friends rapidly. I have a quiet demeanor, am quick
to laugh, and have a ready sense of humor. I will be an excellent Goodwill
Ambassador for America and anybody that chooses to sponsor me.
I've visited and photographed a big chunk of the United States, Central
America, Asia, England, and the Caribbean. I've always felt a strong
affinity for Australia and I'm really looking forward to my visit.

I was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, where I attended the University
of Wisconsin and received my BS degree in Art Education. My very first
teaching job was in New York City at the Japanese School of New York. From
NY, I moved to Houston, Texas where I taught photography to high school
students and adults.

In the late 80's I moved to Virginia and continued teaching photography
to adults. I concentrated on selling my work and I traveling extensively
around the United States. In 1989 on a trip to the Southwest I became very
intrigued with White Sands National Monument. I began a large photographic
study of White Sands, spending many nights there in my tent. My portfolio
of this monument can be seen at http://www.wazoo.com/~d

I moved to New Mexico in 1992 and received my MA degree in Curriculum
& Instruction with a specialization in Learning Technologies from New
Mexico State University (NMSU) in 1996. In May of 1998 I received
my Ed Specialist in Curriculum & Instruction. I have worked on several
large educational telecommunication grants with local school districts.
The main focus of these grants has been to teach teachers how to integrate
technology into their curriculum and subject areas. I have co-written a
webquest about New Mexico which can be seen at http://www.nmsu.edu/~colgeduc/Quests/NMWebQuest.htm
Currently I am writing a web-based curriculum for the New Mexico
Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum. You can visit the kids’ activity pages
at http://zianet.com/farm-ranch.
I am also featured in a book called Our Grandmothers: Loving Portraits
by 74 Granddaughters, that was published in the Spring of 1998 by Stewart
Tabori & Change. The book was edited by Linda Sunshine and is available
on-line at http://amazon.com
